Some day I'll write a really blasé dissertation on the commonality of the generational experience as described in songs film books etc

And I'll find it brilliant as I'm writing it but then remember that everything i wrote was obvious after reading it over and probably never show it to anyone. Anyways:

There are nights when I think Sal Paradise was right.
Boys and Girls in America have such a sad time together.
Sucking off each other at the demonstrations
Making sure their makeup’s straight
Crushing one another with colossal expectations.
Dependent, undisciplined, and sleeping late.

She was a really cool kisser and she wasn’t all that strict of a Christian.
She was a damn good dancer but she wasn’t all that great of a girlfriend.
She likes the warm feeling but she’s tired of all the dehydration.
Most nights are crystal clear
But tonight it’s like it’s stuck between stations
On the radio.

The devil and John Berryman
Took a walk together.
They ended up on Washington
Talking to the river.
He said “I’ve surrounded myself with doctors
And deep thinkers.
But big heads with soft bodies
Make for lousy lovers.”
There was that night that we thought John Berryman could fly.
But he didn’t
So he died.
She said “You’re pretty good with words
But words won’t save your life.”
And they didn’t.
So he died.

He was drunk and exhausted but he was critically acclaimed and respected.
He loved the Golden Gophers but he hated all the drawn out winters.
He likes the warm feeling but he’s tired of all the dehydration
Most nights were kind of fuzzy
But that last night he had total retention.

These Twin Cities kisses
Sound like clicks and hisses.
We all tumbled down and
Drowned in the Mississippi River.

We drink
We dry up
Then we crumble to dust

I may be jumping the gun here but

I really like the Broken Bells EP. Granted, I'm
only listening to it for the the second time right now but there are a few reasons why I'm sure I'll love ot as much as I did at 4am last week when I was packing my room:

1. Usually one of the number one reasons why I like a band is because of the way the lead singer's voice sounds. This is why I love The Shins, that and because to me their lyrics are really good poetry, and seeing as half of Broken Bells is the lead singer/lyricist of The Shins I'm pretty much already sold

2. I think I'm also secretely a fan of Dangermouse, seeing as I love most of his collaborations and because he always choosing to work with some of my favorite artists ( I'm thinking specifically of the Beck/Dangermouse album, Modern Guilt)

3. In the time it's taken me to tap this out on iPhone (bed-stuy) doesn't have the Internet yet, I'm through 4 songs and yup I was right it's awesome, esp. "The Ghost Inside" which is playing right now.

Yup. Gonna give the new LCD Spundsystem another try soon, see if I like it more when I'm less grumpy.

Why

Would I consciously combine mac n cheese and orange juice, two things that always hurt my stomach, for dinner?

Why? Why would you do that Kimberly? Maybe I just felt orange.

The best, and only good part of winter

Was getting up and declaring a snow day with the four other people in our two-bedroom apartment and skipping class, then getting beer/inappropriately drunk in the morning and playing Mariokart all day. We could do that in summer too but most of us don't have class to skip anymore and you're gone anyways (making the drunk sex part a no-go and that was my favorite at the time, but lets be real here half the time it was drunk fighting anyways)

I just romanticized 5 months ago, bitches.

I really like "Closer" and Natalie Portman, and The Blower's Daughter, and Mike Nichols, okay?

No one will ever love you like I love you. Why isn't love enough?

Dear July,

I have high hopes for you, so let's not fuck this up, okay?

Good things:

-Pulaski St.

-Liam and Maggie, who are adorable and I will hopefully be spending the next few years helping their parents take care of them (which totally requires a degree from NYU Film School)

-Writing so soon
